J.C. van Schagen (1891-1985), an eccentric Dutch writer, poet, and visual artist, left an extensive literary heritage situated somewhere on the margins of Dutch literature. One of the most interesting examples of his oeuvre is Fifty Joys, originally self-published in 1966. A highly poetic listing of things that made life worth living to Van Schagen, most of which are still very recognizable to us across space and time. Nadorst Publishing presents the first bilingual edition of this precious little work, in an unusual, fan-like design.
